Dear Friend,
The EPA recently took the first step toward ending mountaintop removal coal mining (MTR) by issuing strict new guidelines to block MTR waste from being dumped into neighboring valleys - a practice that has been poisoning community drinking water for decades.
This may very well be the most significant administrative action ever taken to address mountaintop removal coal mining, and it is certainly a clear sign that our activism is working.
As our allies in the coalfields are saying, this is the beginning of the end for MTR. Now it's time to finish this thing!
Donate now to help reach our goal of ending MTR for good, this year.
There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. You have gotten us this far and we need your help in giving what you can to put an end to mountaintop removal mining once and for all.
The next administration's EPA could overturn these new guidelines with the stroke of a pen. Let's guarantee our mountains, waterways and communities are protected from MTR forever, and that Appalachia becomes a priority region for clean energy development. We want nothing less than a full ban on mountaintop removal and we believe, with this win at our backs and your help, we can make it happen in 2010.
Your support is more important than ever. Please help us raise $15,000 for our campaign to end MTR in 2010.
The fight ahead will be tough and the coal industry is already using this win to amass new strength to make sure we don't get a full ban on MTR. What they aren't counting on is a growing groundswell of activists all across the country who are taking on mountaintop removal like never before.
Together we can build the necessary pressure to ensure the era of blowing up mountains is over. Please donate today to help us reach our goal of raising $15,000.
We are so close to winning this one. Whether it's five dollars or five thousand dollars, each of us has the means to help end MTR this year. Let's make it happen!
