July 7, 2010 Urge President Obama to lead the way on a clean energy bill Last week President Obama met with a bipartisan group of senators to discuss the future of clean energy and climate legislation. Although the meeting marked an important breakthrough, the president must now roll up his sleeves and provide the hands-on leadership necessary to pass legislation that reduces our dependence on oil, puts a cap on global warming pollution and invests in clean energy.
Strong and effective comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that requires big polluters to reduce their pollution each year would transform our energy system, decreasing the risks of oil spills and global warming. It also would put our nation on a path to a clean energy future with millions of new, well-paying jobs and keep at home billions of dollars we currently send overseas to hostile governments for their oil.
But to pass such a bill, President Obama must work directly with the Senate to devise a successful legislative strategy and set concrete expectations for what that bill needs to achieve.
What to do
Send a message urging President Obama to take an in-depth leadership role in the fight for clean energy and climate legislation that will end our dependence on oil.
